Privacy Policy

1. The privacy of Vaðlaheiðarganga users is of great importance to Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. It covers personal information whether it is collected and stored electronically, on paper or in other comparable ways. The policy covers the registration, storage and processing of personal information that falls under it. The policy is accessible on the website veggjald.is.
2. The processing of personal data is subject to Act No. 90/2018 on the Protection of Personal Data and the Processing of Personal Data, as amended at any time, as well as the relevant parts of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the authorization of Vaðlaheiðarganga hf. to share such information. The Act covers, among other things, the processing, storage and sharing of personal data.
3. Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. is responsible for the registration and processing of personal information collected through the website veggjald.is, as the website is owned by the company and is the controller within the meaning of data protection legislation for the services provided through veggjald.is. The parties to which Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. may share information, cf. Chapter V of this privacy policy, are independent controllers regarding the processing of information carried out on their behalf and Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. is responsible for ensuring that all processing of information is in accordance with data protection legislation. 4. The role of veggjald.is and the veggjald app is to enable users to pay tolls for their journeys through the Vaðlaheiðar tunnel. Veggjald.is processes data for the purposes of executing a contract, consent, legal instructions, rules and government regulations, or on the basis of legitimate interests. In order to fulfill its role, veggjald.is collects and processes the following information for the following purposes: - user name, telephone number, address, email address, along with social security number and payment method to complete and fulfill their purchase of a journey through the Vaðlaheiðar tunnel, - user name, social security number, type, scope and date of the transaction to fulfill the obligations of Vaðlaheiðar tunnel hf. according to the Accounting Act,- user's name, telephone number, address, email address along with ID number with the user's consent in order to be able to send them promotional materials, offers or customized advertisements, in order to be able to give users the opportunity to participate in surveys, promotional campaigns with prizes, competitions and other promotions,- user's name, telephone number, address, email address along with ID number with their consent in order to be able to contact them for the purpose of quality control and/or if Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. has not heard from the user for a long time,- user's name and email address with their consent in order to be able to enable them to use Vaðlaheiðargöng hf.'s website and social media pages,- user's name, telephone number and email address in order to be able to answer inquiries and respond to their requests, e.g. to send them a newsletter or to answer their questions and comments,Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. collects information that concerns users or telephones and is necessary when they use the services of Vaðlaheiðarganga hf., i.e. data that may include information such as GPS coordinates, IP address, browser type, browser version, pages of the service, time and date of visit and other statistical data. Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. uses cookies to distinguish its users from other users on the website veggjald.is. Cookies are small text files that users' web browsers save on their computers if their web browser is set to accept the use of cookies. The cookies enable Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. to remember certain user settings to improve the user experience and to obtain statistical information about the use of the website veggjald.is. Users can decide whether to allow some or all cookies through browser settings. If users choose not to allow cookies, parts of the website may become inaccessible. This involves automatic information collection due to use of the website veggjald.is and app.
5. Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. never sells personal information about users. Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. never shares personal information with third parties without the user's consent for the sharing, except where Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. is required to do so by law or in the cases listed in Chapter IV or in the next paragraph. Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. is permitted to share personal information with third parties (processors) who are service providers, agents or contractors of Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. for the purpose of completing a project or providing users with a service or product that they have requested or agreed to. Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. is also permitted to share information with processors when it is necessary to protect vital interests, e.g. when collecting a default claim. Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. also shares information, for statistical purposes, with processors who work with Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. in quality and marketing work. Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. only provides the processors with the personal information that is necessary for them for the above-mentioned purposes and Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. then enters into an agreement where the processors undertake to keep information about users secure and use it only for the above-mentioned purposes. The user's attention is then drawn to the fact that all content they publish or share on Vaðlaheiðargöng hf.'s social media pages is public information.
6. This privacy policy does not cover information or processing by third parties, but Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. has no control over or responsibility for their use, publication or other actions, as they are independent responsible parties regarding the processing of information that takes place on their behalf. Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. therefore encourages its users to familiarize themselves with the privacy policies of third parties, including the web hosting providers of the pages that may link to veggjald.is, software companies such as Facebook, Apple, Google and Microsoft, as well as the payment service that the user chooses to use.
7. Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. places great emphasis on protecting all personal information and therefore has an internal control system that is intended to ensure that appropriate technical and organizational security measures are always taken and updated as necessary. Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. will notify its users, without undue delay, if there is a security breach involving users' personal information that poses a high risk to users. A security breach in the above sense refers to a breach of security that leads to the unintentional or unlawful destruction of personal information or its loss, alteration, disclosure or unauthorized access to it. However, users are reminded that they are responsible for personal information, such as name, ID number and photo, that they choose to share or send in a public forum, such as through a chat room or Vaðlaheiðargöng hf.'s Facebook page.
8. Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. tries as much as possible to keep personal information about its users accurate and reliable and updates it as needed. Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. stores personal information about users as long as they wish to be registered users of veggjald.is. Within 90 days of a user notifying Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. of termination of the service, the company deletes all personal information about the user in question. If there is a possibility that the personal information may be needed later to fulfill legal obligations, for example to tax authorities, or to institute or defend a legal claim, Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. reserves the right to copy the personal information in question and store it in a secure form for as long as necessary.
9. Users have the right to and can request the following information by sending a written inquiry to the email address veggjald@veggjald.is:- information about what personal data is registered about them and how it was obtained and gain access to the personal data,- to receive information about how personal data about them is processed,- that personal data about them is updated and corrected,- that personal data about them is deleted, if there is no longer a legitimate reason to keep it, o to object to and/or limit how personal data is processed,- to receive personal data that they have provided to Vaðlaheiðargöngar hf. or to have it sent directly to another party with the restrictions imposed by the rights and freedoms of others,- to withdraw their consent to processing when processing is based on that authorization in the same manner as they gave it or by sending Vaðlaheiðargöngar hf. written notice, - to receive information about whether automated decision-making is carried out, including profiling and the reasoning behind it, as well as the significance and intended consequences of such processing. Users' requests will be considered and the information will be provided to them (where applicable) within a reasonable time, subject to the limitations imposed by the rights and freedoms of others, including trade secrets and intellectual property rights. Please note that a reasonable fee based on administrative costs will be charged if more than one copy is requested. Users will be notified and given an explanation if there is a delay in processing or if it is not possible to comply with the request in full no later than one month from its receipt. Users always have the right to file a complaint with the Icelandic Data Protection Authority if a dispute arises regarding the processing of personal data, but Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. will endeavour to resolve all issues that arise, upon receipt of a request from users.
10. The Privacy Policy is reviewed regularly and may therefore be subject to change. Users are therefore advised to familiarize themselves with it regularly, but changes to the policy will enter into force upon publication on the website veggjald.is. When material changes are made that affect the rights of users, Vaðlaheiðargöng hf. will notify users of these changes by e-mail and/or SMS or in another appropriate manner to ensure that users are aware of the changes.
